In the 19th century, the rise of the Romantic movement led to a new interest in the representation of women in art. Artists such as Gustav Klimt, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Edgar Degas portrayed women in various roles, such as dancers, models, and muses. However, their depiction was often limited to traditional gender roles and stereotypes.
