Creative Indian Women on Instagram

True to our brand, we are always searching for and appreciating the works of creative people on social media, more so if they are women as we are a woman-led business. Bringing to you some interesting conversations with five female artists whose work we love to follow on Instagram.

@sangitacreates

Pattern lover Sangita Chandrashekhar draws every day. She has tutorial videos on her YT channel and also conducts art workshops.

“In my opinion, nature is a great source of inspiration. You will find colour combinations and so much more if you keep looking. For example, I drew a pattern inspired by how muskmelon’s skin looks. Pinterest is another source. One can also join live sessions and workshops conducted by many artists,” she told us while talking about inspiration.

Sangita is a self-taught artist. She had attended art classes as a child and loved art right from school.

With so much art around for consumption, there is a distinct chance of creativity getting influenced by someone else’s. Addressing this concern, Sangita told us, “We all draw inspiration from somewhere. So when one is learning we tend to mimic. As long as credit is given where it’s due or we can take permission from the artist to recreate. Once we find a style we like originality will find its way to you. We tend to add a little bit of ourselves to what we create.”

Sangita believes that anybody can be an artist. “As in most things, art also needs dedication and drive. If one practices consistently and keeps learning, if we dedicate time to it and keep improving and learning, our skills are bound to improve.”

@hatchandblend

Ritisha of HatchAndBlend from Chhattisgrah is a pencil, watercolour, acrylic, and calligraphy artist. She accepts customized orders and also conducts classes regularly. Her inspiration is Sylvie Mahdal.

We spoke to her about her art and the workshops she conducts. “Yes, anybody can join my workshop. I’m a self-taught artist so I very well understand the needs and how the right tip can change the whole look of the artwork. With my classes, one can really see improvement.. this is something I can assure you. Adding to this, practice matters a lot. So with the correct guidance, one must practice daily to develop the skills.”

Echoing a question we get a lot, we asked her about fear many people have that they might not be able to learn or be good at art. “I believe anyone can be an artist. It’s not always about the talent but the skills. And there are so many art mediums, one can really dive into any. One can be good in abstract art but not with pencil sketching.. so basically, it depends. It’s just that the person needs to find his field where he can indulge without being bored of it.”

@doodleebee

Priyanka Jaising started Doodleebee to encourage people on a deeper spiritual level. “It’s a medium through which I share the messages and visions that come to me based on the general energy that I sense within and around. I always make sure that my art is not influenced by external elements by keeping it focused on the flow that guides my inner being, on the purpose that it has – to give someone a message that they may truly be in need of at that particular time. I wish to spread hope, peace, and light through my work and uplift people through the vibes emitted by it.”

She paints with oils, acrylics, and watercolors (@artbypriyankajaising). She also makes black and white doodle art, along with a dash of color every now and then (@doodleebee). Priyanka accepts orders for customized artwork for all the artwork she makes.

“I get my inspiration from the mystical Universe that we live in and from connecting deeply to the beautiful soul that we all have within us. It intrigues me how everything in life is so perfectly and divinely designed. There’s so much inspiration that one can find within and without if one only looks and trusts the process. According to me, anybody can be an artist if they truly desire to and put in the hard work and practice that it requires. Art is a beautiful soul language that can be tapped into when the inner calling demands.”

@themerakigirl

Hera, The Meraki Girl is an expert at calligraphy and has trained more than 1000 people! She accepts commissions and conducts regular workshops. We spoke to her about ensuring that her artwork remains original and what she said was quite interesting.

“There is only one Taj Mahal and even if somebody tries to recreate the beauty, the aura will always lie in the original one only. I make sure i add my name in the artwork so that no one can just share it but I appreciate people who take inspiration from my artwork but would never go ahead who just blindly copy and forget to give credits to any artist. Instagram is a platform where everyone showcases what they like. I love the community of artist that there are and love how everyone appreciates each and everyone.”

Her workshops are designed in a manner that anyone from anywhere can understand and learn the beauty of this lettering. It is more about understanding and making the art form fun.

Speaking about her muse, she tells us, “I don’t completely rely on Pinterest because that is also a platform where everyone showcases their artform. I do take quotes from there but when it comes to ideas I look forward to connect the dots as per my mood and what I feel like doing at that moment. It can be anything ranging from the color scheme picked up from a sunset to may be something I saw yesterday, and make some dolphins in the same color. So relying completely on one platform is never the solution.”
